An Epic Adventure Awaits
Authentic Culture Immersion with the Maasai
Though the Maasai are not the most populous tribe in Kenya, they are certainly the most well-known for several reasons. They are the owners and care-takers of the Maasai Mara. They are the warrior tribe as seen in the movie Out of Africa. They have lived on the lands along side lions, leopards, and elephants for hundreds of years. You’ll see some villages and schools next to the Maasai Mara even today.
They are also herders by trade and their cows, sheep, and goats are their wealth. Their ancestors traveled all over Kenya and most of Kenya belonged to them at one point. Some will still often drive their herds hundreds of miles for better eating grounds at different times of years – some of them still do. You will see many Maasai herding as we drive along various stretches of roads throughout Kenya.
The Maasai are also the jumping tribe – which you may have seen on National Geographic. There are several reasons they do this, and I’ll leave it up to them to explain.
Since O.D. is a Maasai, we’ll get to have some truly authentic cultural immersion experiences like no other tour company can give you.
We use a portion of these funds to buy groceries for our hosts and their children. We also take some groceries to the Great-Grandmother we visit.
