If you arrive in the evening or feel the effects of travel, we’ll head straight to your hotel, where you can unwind and rest in preparation for the adventures ahead.
- See Mt. Kilimanjaro
- Explore Arusha National Park
After breakfast we’ll drive to the view spot to see the tallest Mountain in all of Africa. Standing at 19,341 ft (5,895 m), Mt. Kilimanjaro is the tallest LONE MOUNTAIN in the world (not in a chain). I often joke that we haven’t seen any dwarves or dragons here yet though 😉 After some amazing photos and views, we’ll drive to Arusha National Park (over an hour away) where we’ll have our first official Safari.
Arusha National Park is located on the foothills of Mount Meru making it a treasure of wildlife and changing scenery. First we’ll be in a deep jungle home to blue monkeys, colorful turacos, trogons, and the white & black colobus monkeys. In the north the scenery changes to rolling hills and the tranquil Momela lake. Bright pink flamingos migrate here and there are usually herds of zebra and giraffes nearby. Though this is particular park does not have elephants and lions, the scenery and the many other animals make it a must!
- Arusha Day Tour
- Make your own Coffee
- Visit a local village
- Taste rare Honey and exotic spices
- Humanitarian Gift
Today is our culture day. For one day, you’ll be immersed into what life is like in another part of the world. We’ll go at a leisurely pace as we visit a village at the foot of Mt. Meru, make our own cup of coffee from bean-to-cup, savor some exotic spices, and taste some rare medicinal honey from the local bees.
This is also where we’ll be giving our humanitarian gift. We will come with some basic supplies (already included) to gift to some locals here in the village or the local orphanage. Not only is it heartwarming, we feel it is important to give back to the communities that welcome us into their part of the our world.
- Stroll with Giraffes
- Drive to Lake Manyara
- Treetop Walkways
- Safari around Lake Manyara
After breakfast, we’ll take a 90 min stroll with giraffes. This experience will be an educational journey on conversation efforts as well as a wonderful experience watching these majestic animals thrive in their natural habitat.
Afterwards we’ll drive a couple hours to a smaller and a lesser-known game reserve called Lake Manyara National Park. It’s more of a diamond in the rough. Lake Manyara has a high concentration of elephants – some of the largest herds anywhere on earth! We’ll also have a chance to see some of the rare tree-climbing lions here! Inside the park is a treetop canopy walk where we’ll experience untouched nature and wildlife from a unique perspective. The lake itself is home to over 400 species of birds including flamingoes, pelicans, and other waterbirds – fifty of them are birds of prey.
- Two days in Tarangire National Park
- Go on a Night Safari
On one of the evenings, we’ll head out on a Night Safari where you’ll be able to see the animals that ONLY come out at night – aardvarks, badgers, civets, etc. Plus, the animals that are less elusive during the nighttime hours, like rhinos. This is not usually available and this is one of the most perfect parks for this because of all the wildlife concentrated here and the lake. (Please make sure you bring a jacket or packable down and a warm hat. It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, it can get cold and night and we’ll be in an open vehicle during this safari).
- Adventure in the Ngorongoro Crater
Today we’re going to venture into the legendary UNESCO-listed Ngorongoro Crater. Named by Maasai farmers after the sound of the cow bells when herding cattle across the plains, ngoro ngoro, Here, you’ll find yourself inside an ancient volcanic caldera, surrounded by 2,000-foot (600-meter) cliffs. At 102 sq miles (10×12) (264 sq km), it is the largest intact caldera in the world that isn’t full of water. The walls are so high they have essentially cut off the inside from the rest of the world allowing the creation of its own biodiversity inside.
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is also home to some of the densest mammal populations on earth. Parts of the crater are covered in dense forest while most of the northern end is grassy plains – this is where the animals converge in great numbers. The crater is home to herds of zebra, wildebeest, gazelles, and lions. Its also one of the last places in the world you can see the critically endangered black rhino in the wild – there are approximately 60 living here. You’ll be immersed into a world where both you and the wildlife are within the vast, breathtaking embrace of this natural wonder.
- Olduwai Gorge
- “Cradle of Mankind”
- Drive to Serengeti
In the morning, we’ll drive into the world famous plains of the Serengeti. Along the way we’ll stop for a view of the Olduvai Gorge. Known as “The Cradle of Mankind”, it is one of the most important paleoanthroplogolical sites in all the world. Here were found the world’s oldest undisputed Homosapien bones and tools from 1.7 million years ago. (We will not be doing the hike to the actual site itself since it’s long and steep, but we will stop at the viewpoint).
We will then drive into the vast savannah plains of the famous Serengeti. The Serengeti is world renowned for the BIG 5 and the Great Migration. Every year 1.5+ million wildebeest and 200k zebra follow the rains from the Southern Serengeti up into Kenya’s Maasai Mara and then come back again. The trek is a 5,000 mile (8,047 km) loop. The Serengeti is truly legendary, home to buffaloes, elephants, rhinoceroses, leopards, lions, cheetah, hyenas, topi, gazelle, waterbuck, hartebeest, and so much more! The park is home and host to more than 500 species of birds, including ostriches, crowned cranes, marabou storks and secretary birds; some of the most sought-after and photogenic birds on the planet.
- SAFARI Serengeti National Park (2 Days)
- (**Luxury Tour includes a Dinner in the Bush and a Hot air Balloon ride)
We’re now in the world of The Lion King and the Great Migration wildebeest crossings featured on National Geographic. Over the next two days, we’ll be immersed in the untamed beauty of this iconic landscape. It’s a haven for wildlife, offering opportunities to observe nature at its most authentic. Each day, we’ll set out in search of the Big 5 and watch the diverse array of animals along the way. Keep your camera ready as we search the savannah for lions, leopards, and cheetahs. We’ll marvel at towering giraffes grazing the treetops and magnificent elephants roaming the plains. We’ll see the hippos and crocodiles laze about in the rivers. And, we’ll add zebras, baboons, mongooses, hyenas, and a myriad of other amazing creatures to our scouting list. Our safaris are not just about spotting wildlife; they’re about experiencing the heartbeat of Africa. It’s about connecting with the wild, feeling the pulse of the earth, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Every moment is filled with wonder!
**The Luxury Adventure includes one evening dinner in the Bush surrounded by nature and one early morning Hot Air Balloon Ride over the Serengeti with a champagne breakfast. The Hot Air Balloon departs before dawn since the temperature plays a huge role in how long the balloon can stay in the air. You’ll soar over the savannah for an hour watching the animals from a view you can only get from above. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy a scrumptious champagne breakfast out on the savannah.

OR - Fly to Zanzibar for your island add-on

Large planes are NOT allowed into the Serengeti so all planes in and out are small. Because the planes are small, there will be a luggage weight limit and a bag limit when flying – so when you’re at home packing for this trip, keep this in mind! Windswept Safaris provides you with TWO tour guides, Shelly and O.D., who are with you from private airport pickup to airport drop off. They are there to help you feel as comfortable as possible and know you are well taken care of. Two guides also ensures you receive a lot of personalized attention and everything runs as smoothly as possible. -
Full Day Safaris
We know you came on this trip to see LOTS of animals! We LOVE seeing the animals, too! So, we spend as much time as we can out on the savannas on the lookout for animals. Most companies only spend a few hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the evening out observing the wildlife, but we will give you the option of a full day safari!

-
Shelly as a Tour Guide
Shelly (right), is a HUGE asset to have in your corner. She is an American who has worked for Delta airlines and has a degree in Global Studies (history, culture, and religions of the world). She has gained a deep understanding of the ins and outs of travel and many of our worlds cultures. She now lives in Kenya more than half of the year and is integrated into the Maasai culture. She is also a professional level photographer who loves taking photographs of the wildlife. All of these experiences and attributes help her to better accommodate you and make your trip even more incredible!

Average Safari Costs
The average Safari price in Kenya ranges from $125 a night to $3,500 per person per night depending a lot on your accommodations and transportation. At Windswept Safaris, we offer three main Safari tiers: Value, Classic, and Luxury. VALUE is our standard tier made up of standard accommodations, CLASSIC is a mixture of 3, 4, and 5 star hotels depending on aesthetics and/or location, and LUXURY is 5 star hotels (where available) chosen for aesthetics and/or location. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional value with every tour. While we include a range of exclusive extras, most of our tours remain competitively priced within the mid-range of industry standards. If you're seeking the lowest price possible, we are not your best option, but if you’re looking for unmatched quality and value, you won’t find a better option anywhere else.

-
Humanitarian Gift
It is rare for tour companies to provide any type of humanitarian support. We feel it is important, if not necessary, to contribute to the people and the communities that have welcomed us into their part of the world. While we’re there, you’ll have the opportunity to meet them and experience their joy and excitement at meeting you—their smiles and curiosity are truly heartwarming. Funds for some basic supplies are already included in your tour price, ensuring that we can make a meaningful contribution to their education. However, if you feel moved to contribute more, your generosity is always welcome and greatly appreciated. 100% of any additional donations will go directly to our gift.
-
Memorable Photos
We will capture some highlights of the magical moments from your journey and gift them to you (digital downloads) as a Thank You for adventuring with us! There will also be the option to purchase professional level photos of the savanna animals as taken by Shelly. What better way to reminisce and showcase the experiences you had then seeing incredible photos of the actual animals - as you saw them - hanging on your wall!
