Why Choose Windswept Safaris...

  • LOTS of Value

The average cost of a safari in Tanzania or Kenya can vary widely from $125 per person per night to over $3,500 pp per night - depending a lot on your choice of accommodations and travel style. Most tours with Windswept Safaris are priced in the middle range or below - yet our value is priced for the top end. At Windswept Safaris, we offer more than just a trip — we deliver an extraordinary experience that combines true luxury, adventure, cultural immersion, and even humanitarian. You’ll enjoy unparalleled value without sacrificing the excellence and personal care we are known for. We specialize in providing standard to high-end, tailored experiences, which reflects the quality and attention to detail we deliver. So, if you’re searching for something truly remarkable with exceptional value, you’ve found the perfect match!

  • Memorable Photos

We will capture some of the magical moments from your journey and gift them to you (in the form of digital downloads) as a Thank You for adventuring with us! There will also be the option to purchase some professional level photos (digital) of the animals as taken by Shelly. What better way to reminisce and showcase the experiences you had here then seeing photos of the actual animals you saw LIVE hanging on your wall at home!

  • The option of Full Day Safaris

We know you came on this trip to see LOTS of animals! We LOVE seeing them too! However, we also understand how important it is to just relax as well. So, on this tour we will do both! We will spend time out in the cruisers AND spend time just relaxing and enjoying the incredible hotels with the beautiful scenery around us. Usually after breakfast we'll go on a morning exploration, come back for lunch and a small respite, then go on an afternoon exploration. You can join for both drives, just one, or neither that day - it's up to you. As travelers we understand the desire to explore or just relax ebbs and flows from day to day. (We do have memory foam cushions available for those who are concerned about longer days.)

  • TWO EXPERT GUIDES

Most tour companies only provide you with one tour guide - who is also your driver. Windswept Safaris provides you with TWO tour guides, Shelly and O.D., where at least one us us is with you from private airport pickup to airport drop off to help you feel as comfortable as possible and know you are well taken care of. Two guides also ensures you receive a lot of personalized attention and everything runs as smoothly as possible. For groups larger than 7, we will bring in a 3rd guide.

  • Shelly as a Tour Guide

Shelly (with the tortoise) is an American who has traveled to around 30 countries and spent many months in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa so she understands the ins and outs of travel and culture. She also lives half of the year in Kenya and is integrated into the Maasai culture. Her degree is in Global Studies (history, culture, and religions of the world). Her extensive travel coupled with her degree helps give her an understanding of different cultures and their various needs. She is also a photographer who loves taking photographs of the wildlife. All of these attributes and skills help her accommodate your needs better and make your trip even more incredible!

What's Included and What's Not

Inclusions

O.D. and I are on every tour regardless of size. For groups larger than 7, we will then have two cruisers which means an additional driver/tour guide. This way you will benefit from the expertise and personal attention of three knowledgeable guides.

Enjoy beautiful and comfortable accommodations in hotels, camps, and lodges throughout your adventure. All meals from arrival to departure (except airport meals) are included, offering a mix of local and international cuisines. If you have a dietary need, let us know and we’ll see what we can do to help accommodate you. Tanzania is still a developing country so be aware that it might not be possible.

Travel in style and comfort in our Land Cruisers with a pop-up top and interchangeable windows or roll-up windows for optimal wildlife viewing. Your transportation includes a professional driver, fuel, and all necessary transfers once you’re in Tanzania. Each cruiser holds 6-7 guests.

ALL entrance fees to national parks, conservancies, and other attractions are included.

Drinkable water varies too much, so we provide you with unlimited filtered drinking water throughout your trip.

Most of our tours include a humanitarian gift as a way of giving back and helping the locals at the ground level.  This usually involves taking school supplies to a local school or supplies to families in need.  A small portion of your tour price goes to pay for this gift. If you wish to contribute more, your contribution is always welcome.  100% of it will go to our gift.

Some of your most cherished moments will be captured by us. We will give you some of these photos as a Thank You for coming on our tour.  An option will be available to purchase professional quality photos from your trip if you desire.

Tips for hotel staff and Restaurants are included in Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Your domestic flight from the Serengeti to Zanzibar and from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam are included

Room and board for 5 days, 4 nights on the beach

Travel to and from and swimming with otters, petting a cheetah, lemurs, a zebra, etc. are included

Exclusions

Your journey to and from Tanzania is not included. If you need assistance booking your airfare, just ask us and we can refer you to a trusted travel agent

Ensure your passport is current with two blank pages and at least six months of validity upon arrival. Most travelers will need a Visa to enter Tanzania, which can be easily applied for online.

Tanzania is changing from Visa to ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) so we will keep you updated.  If needed, we can help you in this process.  Please start one month in advance.

Because there are many unknowns, we REQUIRE to you obtain travel insurance – including “cancel for any reason” coverage (when available). We like World Nomads Travel Insurance, but the company is up to you.

Please note some vaccines are recommended, but NONE are required to get into Tanzania UNLESS you’re coming from a country that contains high amounts of yellow fever (or you have a layover in a country with yellow fever for more than 12 hours).

The USA and Europe require no vaccines. Persons above a certain age may be exempt from vaccine requirement.  We are not responsible if you get sick, so please take care of yourself in whatever way you see fit. (More info given in the travel packet).

Please bring, and continue to take, any personal medications as prescribed by your doctor.

Unless otherwise stated, alcohol is not included. When it is, the hotel will show you what specific beers, wines, and spirits they are offering. Tips for bartender and bar attendants not included.

Personal services, such as massages, are at your own expense.  Tips for personal service are also at your own expense.

There will be some wonderful shopping opportunities for souvenirs and gifts and our adventures – all purchases will be at your own expense

Unless otherwise stated, laundry services are not included.  However, most camps and hotels provide the option.  We suggest packing 6-7 days worth of clothes and washing once.

Zanzibar is partially independent from Tanzania.  They REQUIRE their own separate insurance policy regardless of any other insurance you have.

You purchase this through the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) and can be obtained when applying for your Tanzanian e-visa. It is recommended that you obtain the insurance in advance rather than upon arrival.

The new insurance provides coverage for emergency medical expenses, personal accidents, baggage delay, theft, legal expenses, personal liability, and repatriation expenses for Zanzibar.
